Ruffles the Seal

(11/12/21) A big shout out to Ruffles the Seal!! Ruffles was spotted by local environmentalists this past summer. He is a newborn Harbor Seal living in our Local Jamaica Bay. He is believed to be the first Harbor Seal to be born in the bay in over 100 years. Now that is a long time!

(11/9/21) Nikhil H and Ean B picked up trash in the schoolyard this week without being asked or told. People talk about changing the world, these lads are doing it!!!!! We are proud of them and their work.

Ms. Lagombra is very environmentally friendly (she is strongly influenced by her daughter). In this pic Ms. Lagombra is wearing a pair of shoes made from recycled plastic. And she wore them well!!!!!

Shout out to 604 and 606 Students

Scholars' Green Team have adopted all the trees surrounding our school. Unfortunately, they have been neglected because of our current situation. But we are getting back to work and showing our adopted trees some TLC. We are weeding the beds, adding compost, and adding a woodchip mulch.

Shout Out to the Scholars' students and family who attended the RISE community cleanup on Saturday. The focus of Earth Day this year is "Restore Our Earth". Cleaning up our neighborhoods is an excellent way to put action to the words!!!!!

Our Garden Just Got a Delivery

Covid knocked our garden back but we are planting our way back. We just got a big delivery today, April 9th. And it's good timing because April 14th is National Gardening Day and April 22nd is Earth Day.

The Waterside Children's Studio School is Going to be Composting

Well done to our neighboring school, The Waterside Children's Studio School for having a new composting system installed! We are going to work together sharing our composting experience and collectively reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfills.

Rocco and his Family at STEAM Week


Rocco P. is getting a shout out for two reasons. He was unable to make his assigned day for STEAM Week so he attended another day. And, he took Dixie (his dog), his mom and his sister. It is Family STEAM night!! Dixie does need to brush up on her sustainability skills.

Shoutout to Tasnia!

Green Team member Tasnia decided to get crafty over the winter break and created string lights using recycled toilet paper rolls. She painted the rolls and attached them to string lights to create a cool bedroom decoration!
