DSNY Trip 1/24/23

Shoutout to DSNY for hosting select members of our Green Team at the Sanitation Department on Tuesday 1/24/23. It was a great experience, and for many, one of their first trips ever from the Scholars' Academy!

Green Teem Collab. with P.S. 63 12/19/22

Special shoutout to P.S. 63 for coming to visit with our Green Team last Friday (12/9/22)! It was amazing being able to collaborate with another school and combine ideas about sustainability within our school communities. Click to the right for the video compilation of the event! 

Aferschool Gardening 10/24/22

Our Gardening Afterschool Club met again this afternoon Monday (Oct. 24). It was an amazing day and we all got so much work done. We organized our composting, planted daffodils, and had another Green Team Leadership Meeting. Email Mr. Bradley and come join us! 

Gardening 10/17/22

Our Gardening Afterschool Club met for the first time on Monday (Oct 17). It was a beautiful day. We planted onions, garlic, and daffodils. This is the season to plant your bulbs! You'll be glad in the spring!!!

Composting 10/20/22

Much of our "behind the screens" work is done for our composting system to succeed. Thank you Priscilla and Angelina for cleaning the compost bins!!!!!!


Recycling 9/29/22

We have not been able to recycle properly over the last few years because of Covid and its impact. However, we are getting organized to get our recycling and composting programs back. New signage will be placed in every classroom and office. The custodians have already placed new recycling cans in every room!

Club Fair 9/22/22

Thank you to our HS and MS Green Team Presidents for presenting at the Enrichment Fair on Tuesday night. They did a great job!!!

Spring Has Arrived  3/10/22

The Gardening Club sowed their first outdoor seeds of the season today. Spring is coming!!!!!!!


Student Involvement 12/12/21

Justina G. and Jailen JC were busy working in the garden today. Along with the rest of their team, they emptied the compost bins and cared for the garden. In this pic, Jailen is top dressing a raised bed to protect the soil over the winter. Justina is watering the crops growing in our greenhouse.  Justina harvested lettuce to take home to her granddad. Is there a better reason to garden?


Gardening Club 12/1/21

Our Gardening Club met for the first time today. They are preparing to plant seeds indoors. Getting the soil and containers ready. Next week we plant!

Chess Board

We are building a super large chess board in the garden. We want our garden to be a place where Scholars' students will want to visit and have fun.

6th Grade Steam 11/17/21

Grade 6 STEAM classes are having to move their work indoors. It's getting cold! But composting work continues and we are learning how to grow crops in our greenhouse.

Scholars' and the NYC Parks Department

Teamwork 11/9/21

The NYC Parks department, parents, and Green Team members planted about 1,000 bulbs on Tuesday, 8th in the playground/park at our school. Together we can do so much!!!!

After a long pause (due to Covid), we are starting up our recycling program again! Let's reduce the waste going to landfills!!


GT Hydroponics

Hydroponics 11/10/21

The Green Team is in the process of setting up our hydroponic's tower. We planted seeds this morning (Wednesday, November 10th). We are getting everything organized so we can move the tower into the cafeteria. Look out for it!!! It's hard to miss!
